A nationally scare species, this individual was attracted to a light trap at Ramsey Heights. Formerly quite common, it is now very localised, mainly due to the disappearance of its preferred hedgerow habitat. The adults are on the wing in February and March but are rarely seen, however the larvae live gregariously in silken webs on the foodplants, hawthorn (Crataegus) and blackthorn (Prunus spinosa).
