The Wildlife Trust Countryside Centre is a fantastic place to visit no matter what your ability.
If you are thinking about visiting the Great Fen but have mobility problems then you can still have a great day out at the Wildlife Trust Countryside Centre. There are two all-terrain electric wheelchairs which are free to hire from Monday - Friday between 8.30am and 4.30pm. You can hire these for up to 3 hours and tuition will be given upon your arrival.
These chairs have been tested, can easily cope with the terrain and are excellent for a trip around this small reserve. In 2012 Ron Needham from the Ramsey Stroke Association visited and used one of the electric wheelchairs. Ron commented, "I shall certainly be making a return visit to go further afield in your fantastic mobile scooter (quite the best I have ever seen let alone driven)".
The Wildlife Trust Countryside Centre also has disabled-access paths down to the toilets (including disabled) and picnic area, disabled picnic benches and an all-access bird hide. If you would like to book one of the wheelchairs please contact Nicola Simpson. (Upon arrival a holding deposit will be taken, such as car keys or a credit card).
There is also a new family audio trail at the Wildlife Trust Countryside Centre. This is downloadable from this website, and we also have MP3 players free to hire. Contact Nicola Simpson for more information or to book.
