Species: Bats
Location: Woodwalton Fen National Nature Reserve
Evidence of 5 species detected
The first Big Wetlands Bat Survey of the year was carried out on a mild evening, with a slight breeze. Common Pipistrelle bats detected (and seen) first, followed by a few Soprano Pipistrelle bats. We also detected a Noctule, which sneaked in while we were walking back along the Great Raveley Drain.
As suspected, we had Myotis bat species, certainly Daubenton’s Bat. As we deduced, we did indeed detect Barbastelle bat along the Great Raveley.
Common Pipistrelles were by far the commonest bat that evening.
Our next visit, on International Bat Night (27th) is coming soon.
