Our work on the Great Fen will take time. But it's worth it for the restoration of habitat and the benefit of wildlife. We have much to rejoice in this landscape.
The Great Fen gives us vast open spaces to explore, fascinating creatures to observe, inspiring walks to enjoy and outstanding natural beauty.
A thriving wetland can support a huge variety of life, from colourful butterflies such as the purple emperor found at Woodwalton Fen to shy water voles that are thriving in the ditch network across the project area. Our fenland ditches and reedbeds are a favourable habitat for many rare species of insect, bird and mammals.
As well as providing a haven for fen wildlife, the Great Fen will create a massive green space for people, opening new opportunities for recreation, education and business. It will incorporate areas where winter flood waters can be stored and will prevent the release of huge amounts of carbon dioxide each year.
Due to the generosity of our supporters we have successfully raised £14,278 for our Great Fen Appeal, enabling us to create and restore habitat, turning this vast landscape back into a thriving wetland that can be enjoyed by people and wildlife.
Thank you to everyone that kindly donated to our winter appeals. Donations are still welcome if you would consider supporting us in this way.
You can continue supporting our vital work by:
1. Leaving a gift in your will – ensuring that the preservation of beautiful green spaces and wildlife you care so much, well beyond your lifetime.
2. Becoming a Wildlife Guardian – enabling us to plan for the future so we continue to protect rare and threatened species, preserve vital habitats and inspire communities to discover and take action for wildlife.
