Here at the Great Fen and at the Widlife Trust, we believe that EVERY child should be given the opportunity to experience life and lessons in the outdoor environment as a regular part of growing up. These experiences expand the horizons of young people, opening their eyes to the wonders of the natural world where they take in experiences that include art, heritage, culture and adventure.
Studies have shown that providing these outdoor experiences has a profound effect in helping to raise attainment levels and aspirations, in reducing truancy and in re-motivating those who are disengaged from their education. The benefits to health, physical development, social interaction and building confidence are second to none.
Delivering these experiences in schools is not difficult. You don't have to have a large wildlife area to achieve these results, just access to the outside and lots of imagination.

The Great Fen Team are offering teachers a free 1-hour twilight session, giving a taster of the benefits of taking children outdoors. It includes some simple ideas and techniques that will incorporate the outdoors into the curriculum and topic areas. It also includes some easy ideas on improving the school grounds.
We can also offer various sessions in school to help support teachers and pupils in learning outdoors.
